In the case we are focusing on here, the same concept applies; one need not have a steady hand, calligraphic skill, or inks and paints. All that is needed is that same computer and a color printer with the correct paper if you have the right software; in this case, DesignPro from Avery. With this package you are not simply limited to labels, but the functionality to create transferable tee shirt designs, business and greeting cards, and much more. To be clear though, .zdl files are created with the labeling function of the software. To help you remember this, take note of the "L" at the end of the file extension.
If you are attempting to open a .zdl file and your version of Microsoft Windows does not recognize the file, first make sure you have the software correctly installed; a list of currently installed programs can be accessed under the control panel interface. If you're certain that you have the software installed correctly, it's possible that for some reason Windows just hasn't made the right file associations. To correct this, right click on the .zdl file and select "Open with..." from the menu that appears. A dialogue will appear which is used to either choose the program from a list or navigate to its executable within the installation directory, usually found under "C:/Program Files". If the file cannot be opened correctly, it is likely either mislabeled or corrupted. Get a new or fresh copy of the file from a new source to eliminate corruption issues.
There are no other file types either in past or current use that share the same extension as the .zdl file discussed here. For this reason, if you are come across a .zdl file on your computer or are sent one by an individual you can be almost certain that the file you're dealing with is intended to be opened with the Avery DesignPro software. As an aside, it should be noted that the file may have been mislabeled and is in fact a different type of file altogether. To find out whether this is or is not the case, all one needs to do is attempt to open the file using the free version of the DesignPro studio, labeled itself as "Limited." While the same basic functionality is there, the number of different bundled templates is significantly limited. If you want access to the extra data, you can pay a nominal fee to upgrade your version of the software. It should be noted that the types of files this software produces are proprietary and cannot be opened with any other programs. This may be a drawback for some users.
